Dumortierite<\/a> is an aluminium-borosilicate that usually occurs in blue to violet-blue shades, often with a fibrous or granular structure. The stone is named after French palaeontologist Eug\u00e8ne Dumortier, who described the mineral in the 19th century. Due to its striking colour, dumortierite is often used as an ornamental stone and sometimes as an imitation of lapis lazuli.<\/p>\n Major deposits include Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the United States. Dumortierite forms in aluminium-rich metamorphic rocks and pegmatites. Its chemical formula is Al\u2087BO\u2083(SiO\u2084)\u2083O\u2083 and its hardness is between 7 and 8 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively hard and wear-resistant.<\/p>\n Sources: <\/strong> Pierced pendants are polished and cut (precious) stones with a drill hole, making them easy to wear on a cord or chain. This makes them a popular choice for jewellery. In most cases, the pendants are pierced widthwise, from left to right.<\/p>\n The pierced pendants are available in various shapes and sizes, including drop, oval, point and heart. Some of the range is manufactured in China, while other pendants come from Madagascar. The pierced diameter varies by model and is usually between 2 and 4 mm. We sell the pierced pendants individually, with some having a minimum order of 5 pieces.
