Jasper<\/a> is a dense, fine-grained variety of quartz, often opaque and available in many colours. The stone is characterised by its unique patterns and hues, created by inclusions of other minerals or oxides. Jasper is often formed in sedimentary or volcanic environments.<\/p>\n Major deposits include India, Brazil, Madagascar and Australia. Its chemical formula is SiO\u2082, and it belongs to the quartz family. Its hardness is around 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.<\/p>\n Popular varieties include red jasper, dalmatian jasper, mookaite jasper, polychrome jasper, breccia jasper and ocean jasper.<\/p>\n Sources: <\/strong> Selenite<\/a> is a clear to translucent variety of the mineral gypsum (CaSO\u2084-2H\u2082O). It is known for its glassy to pearly luster and often fibrous structure. A common form is selenite, which has a silky luster and occurs in long, fibrous crystals. Despite its name, selenite has nothing to do with the element selenium; the name is derived from the Greek word for moon, because of its soft luster.<\/p>\n Selenite forms in sedimentary environments during the evaporation of seawater and is found in countries such as Mexico, Morocco, the US and Australia. It is a soft mineral with a hardness of 2 on the Mohs scale, making it easy to work by hand.
