Pietersite<\/a> is a fibrous, breccia-like variety of quartz with inclusions of amphiboles, such as crocidolite. It is known for its vibrant chatoyance and dynamic colour patterns in shades of blue, gold, reddish-brown and sometimes grey or black. Due to its fractured and re-cemented appearance, pietersite is also known as \"stormstone\".<\/p>\n Pietersite was first discovered in Namibia in 1962 and later in China. The stone is formed when fibrous minerals such as tiger's eye are broken, moved and re-hardened within quartz by geological processes.
