Tourmaline quartz<\/a> is a variety of quartz that contains black needle-like inclusions of tourmaline (usually sch\u00f6rl). The contrast between the clear or milky quartz and the darker tourmaline needles gives the stone a distinctive and unique appearance. This makes each piece different and popular in both jewellery and collectibles.<\/p>\n Major deposits of tourmaline quartz include Brazil, Madagascar, Pakistan and the United States. The mineral is formed when quartz and tourmaline crystallise simultaneously in pegmatites or hydrothermal veins.
