Rutile quartz<\/a> is a special variety of quartz in which needle-shaped inclusions of rutile (titanium dioxide) are visible. These inclusions can be golden, reddish-brown or black and often form a striking pattern within the transparent or slightly cloudy crystal. Rutile quartz is valued for this unique visual effect, which gives each specimen its own character.<\/p>\n The mineral is found in locations around the world, including Brazil, Madagascar, India and the United States. It forms in hydrothermal veins where rutile and quartz crystallise simultaneously. Quartz's chemical formula is SiO\u2082, while rutile has the formula TiO\u2082.
