Calcite
Calcite is a common carbonate mineral that occurs in a wide range of colours and crystal forms. The mineral is the main component of limestone and marble and forms in sedimentary, metamorphic and magmatic environments. Its colour can range from colourless and white to yellow, green, pink, red and brown, depending on the impurities present.
Major deposits of calcite include Mexico, Iceland, the United States and Romania. Its chemical formula is CaCO₃. Calcite has a hardness of 3 on the Mohs scale.
