Larimar Silver Pendant
Larimar Silver Pendant from India
Larimar
Larimar is a rare blue variety of the mineral pectolite, found only in the Dominican Republic. The stone is valued for its unique colour variations reminiscent of the Caribbean sea, with hues ranging from light blue to turquoise and white. The typical fibrous structure of pectolite creates the silky appearance of polished larimar.
Larimar is formed in volcanic rocks, where hydrothermal activity causes the formation of pectolite enriched in copper, which is responsible for its blue colour. Its chemical formula is NaCa₂Si₃O₈(OH) and its hardness is between 4.5 and 5 on the Mohs scale.
