Pink Tourmaline in Quartz Points from Madagascar

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a group of borosilicate minerals with a complex chemical composition and a wide variety of colours. It occurs in virtually every colour of the rainbow, including pink, green, blue, black and multi-coloured combinations. This variety makes tourmaline one of the most popular gemstones in the jewellery world.

Tourmaline usually forms in pegmatites and metamorphic rocks. Major deposits include Brazil, Afghanistan, Mozambique, Nigeria and the United States. The chemical formula varies, but a general form is (Ca,K,Na)(Al,Fe,Li,Mg,Mn)₃(Al,Cr,Fe,V)₆(BO₃)₃(Si,Al,B)₆O₁₈(OH,F)₄. The hardness is between 7 and 7.5 on the Mohs scale.

Popular varieties include black tourmaline (schörl), pink tourmaline (rubellite), green tourmaline (verdelite) and watermelon tourmaline (pink interior, green rim).

Major deposits include Brazil, Madagascar, India, Switzerland and the United States. Its chemical formula is SiO₂, and the mineral has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

Well-known varieties include rock crystal (colourless), amethyst (purple), rose quartz (pink), smoky quartz (grey to brown) and citrine (yellow to orange).

Points

Our collection of points includes natural as well as polished and polished specimens, sourced from various countries. We supply points from Madagascar, China, Brazil and India, among others. These differences in origin create distinct variations in shape, finish and appearance.

Madagascar points are generally a bit more substantial in shape, with rounder facets and a more robust look. Chinese points, on the other hand, are tighter and sharper cut, often a bit smaller and with a more refined finish. Both countries usually supply hexagonal shapes. The points from India are usually square in ground shape and slightly less pointed than the variants from China, giving them a character of their own.

Most items have a minimum order of 500 grams. You will receive a selection from the range available at that time. We always select the most beautiful and varied combinations according to our own taste. Please note that sizes may vary per stone type, country and delivery, so the size selection may be wider. We try to indicate this as best we can in the product information.

We have divided the points into the following categories:
Points per Piece  |  Points per Weight

Our weighing products are carefully selected with each order. Under 'Additional information' for each product, you will find details on dimensions, weight and in some cases the number of pieces. This information is an indication and may vary slightly.

For products weighing more than one kilo, we apply a weighing margin of 100 grams. For products under one kilo, we apply a weighing margin of 50 grams. In both cases upwards and downwards.

You always pay for the exact weight of the products received, as stated on the invoice or specification. We will not notify you separately when a weighing margin is applied.
