Azuriet – Malachiet Hart Hanger uit China

The pendant is equipped with an eye and clip. Both are silver-coloured.

Azurite

Azurite is an intense blue copper-bearing mineral often found in combination with malachite. Its striking colour ranges from deep royal blue to almost black-blue and is due to its high copper content. Azurite usually forms crystals, granular masses or nodular structures, and was used as a pigment as early as ancient times.

Major deposits of azurite include Namibia, Morocco, Australia, Mexico and the United States. The mineral is formed by the oxidation of copper ores in the upper layers of deposits, often together with malachite. Its chemical formula is Cu₃(CO₃)₂(OH)₂ and its hardness is between 3.5 and 4 on the Mohs scale.

Malachite

Malachite is an intense green copper-bearing mineral notable for its characteristic band patterns and glass to silky luster. The colour ranges from light green to dark green, often with concentric or layered drawings. The mineral usually forms in the oxidation zones of copper deposits.

Major deposits include the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Russia, Australia and the United States. Malachite has the chemical formula Cu₂CO₃(OH)₂ and a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale.

There are no official subspecies, but notable forms include botryoidal malachite (grape-shaped), needle-shaped malachite (silk malachite) and malachite with azurite, with the mineral occurring together with the blue copper ore form azurite.
