Kunzite Silver Pendant from India

Kunzite

Kunzite is the pink to light purple variety of the mineral spodumene and is valued for its delicate colour and strong luster. The hue results from traces of manganese in the crystal structure. Kunzite is usually transparent and may show pleochroism, with the colour intensity varying depending on the viewing direction.

Kunzite is mainly found in Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, the United States and Pakistan. The mineral crystallises in the monoclinic system and has the chemical formula LiAlSi₂O₆. With a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, it is suitable for use as a gemstone, although it requires some caution due to possible sensitivity to light discolouration.
