Haematite chips consist of small, irregularly shaped pieces of haematite with their characteristic dark grey to silvery metallic lustre. Thanks to their natural shapes and lustrous appearance, each chip has its own unique character.

Haematite is an iron oxide with the chemical formula Fe₂O₃ and is an important source of iron. The name is derived from the Greek word haima, which means ‘blood’. This refers to the reddish-brown colour that becomes visible when haematite is ground into a powder.
